The Chesire Cat
The cheshire cat is one of the most favorite characters in the Alice books. Some readers think of the cat as a visitor to wonderland, rather than a resident, because it was the only character that was able to explain to Alice how the place seems to function, which is by not making any sense at all.
The cat becomes a familiar and comforting friend to Alice as she tries to get through this crazy world. It seemed to keep her connected to the 19th century England that she came from. For this reason, I referenced porcelain cats, which were a popular product from English factories in the 19th century. Some of the statues actually look quite creepy and mad, as if they’ve been to wonderland themselves.
